Mossberg Made a Pistol? First Impressions of the Mossberg MC2C
So, a while back, my buddy Tyler told me Mossberg made a pistol. I’d seen a few things online about it, but I’d never handled one in person and honestly didn’t know what to expect. Well, Tyler ended up buying one. He brought it out today, and even though he hadn’t shot it yet, we decided to run it through its paces. The pistol is the Mossberg MC2C, a compact 9mm that is optics-ready and comes stock with night sights. Ours came with a 14-round and a 16-round mag, no box, and a mid-$500 MSRP.
First Look at the Mossberg MC2C
Initial thoughts? It looked and felt… pretty solid.
-
Slide serrations are practical, have good placement, and a good angle.
-
Comes optics-ready and has Truglo Tritium Pro night sights.
-
Controls are what you’d expect: safety, slide stop/release, front and rear serrations.
-
A little bit of condensation out here today, but otherwise no issues handling it.
The biggest surprise was how well the gun pointed. I’ve said it a bunch of times, and I’ll keep saying it: a gun has to point well. That’s my #1 thing. I want to be able to pull the gun up, and everything just naturally lines up—left to right, up and down. And this thing? It pointed really well.
How It Shoots
We started with 124-grain ammo, and right off the bat, it shot nice. Not snappy at all. In fact, for something that feels this slim, I was surprised by how smooth it ran.
We dumped a couple mags in, and aside from one miss through the bushes, it was on target. No malfunctions.
Honestly? I had low expectations. I had Taurus vibes in my head going into this—not sure why. I hadn’t watched a single review or read anything about it. The first time I Googled the specs was when we were riding the side-by-side out to the range.
But the moment I picked it up, I was like, “Okay… this might actually be solid.”
The Feel
-
Grip texture and size: Feels really good in hand. No interchangeable backstraps, but it didn’t feel like it needed it.
-
Slim profile: It’s a skinny gun. Feels compact without feeling cheap.
-
Slide operation: Easy to rack. Smooth action.
-
Trigger: Clean break. A little bit of a weird reset—you can feel the slide move forward, but it doesn’t fully return to battery until your finger is off the trigger. It’s strange if you’re dry firing slow, but honestly, when you’re shooting, it’s not something you’d even notice.
A Couple Quick Notes
-
No wiggle with the mag inserted (there is without it).
-
Magazines loaded easily—even the last few rounds didn’t get too stiff.
-
My plan was to run 124 and 115 grain, but I left the 115s at home (rookie move). So we just ran 50 rounds through it total today.
Final Thoughts on the Mossberg MC2C
For a quick 50-round first impressions test, this thing held its own. No complaints. The Mossberg MC2C points naturally, feels great in the hand, and shoots way better than I expected. Smooth recoil, no hiccups, and just a solid, easy-shooting pistol. Even the little things—like the mag loading smoothly to the last round—felt well thought out.
